Day 2

Well it's day 2 of the fast, only 19 days left! I talked to a lot of people who were struggling today and I wanted to give everyone out there who is having a rough start a little encouragement. The first 3-4 days of an extended fast are usually the most difficult physically. The absence of stuff like caffeine, sugar and protein give your body a wake-up call. The best way to counter this is by drinking a lot of water. If you're doing a Daniel fast, you should be drinking 8-12 glasses of water per day. Also, the Daniel fast is not the starvation fast - be sure you are eating enough food. I find that six small meals spaced evenly throughout the day work best for me.
Most importantly, don't forget that we fast for spiritual reasons. Your fast is intended to make you more dependent and desperate for God. Be smart about how you fast, but start leaning on Christ now and he will carry you through this fast. Believe me, you won't regret it.

I found some great resources if you care to read more on fasting during your journey. I visited Seacoast years ago when I was visiting friends in Charleston, great church. Check it out:

You know your fast is going to be "interesting" when a Campbell's soup commercial has you thrashing about on the floor on day 1. :)
I'm both excited to be doing this again this year, and yet very nervous that Paul, well, more importantly, God will ask RC3 to do this every year! ...alright, hungry April's done talking now. Really, if God calls RC3 to do this yearly (or more??) then "whoop whoop!" because we must be seriously kicking it for God's kingdom!! I'm pumped to be able to do this alongside the rest of the church. Strength in numbers, people! And knowing how close I'll be drawn to God during this time gives me butterflies in my stomach. After a season of apathy, I need a season of dependence!

Well put April. Headache aside, I am really excited to be doing this again with my church family. My experience has always been that through my weakness God provides me more strength than I ever thought possible. Fasting is a great way to drw closer and remember the importance of relying on him..not me.
