Day 11

Today is World Cheese Day. I received an email from one of my favorite website’s, Kidzmatter, announcing this and wondered what World Cheese Day had to do with anything. This is what they said: “There are even songs about cheese. Sing along with us now: "The cheese stands alone, the cheese stands alone, hi-ho the cherry-o, the cheese stands alone." Good luck getting that out of your head. Alone might be fine for cheese, but you're not made of cheese. You need great tools to stand with you and help make your ministry effective and powerful.”
We can’t do this alone. We need great “tools” – Jesus – to help us! That made me think about some foods that I have desired during the fast, such as cheese, pizza, tacos, chocolate cake (you can stop drooling now!) and how sometimes I feel like I won’t make it without them. There is one thing that each of us needs, and it’s not any of the foods listed above. It’s Jesus!
What if each time during the fast when you feel like you need a certain food, you stop and say “Jesus, I need you more than I need (fill in food here)”. Take it one step further. After you say that, pause for a moment and listen for what God has to say to you. God is working at Rivers Crossing through each of you. He has a message to share with you if you take time to receive it.
God continues to place ideas on my heart related to families and how we can partner together to help parents be the spiritual leaders of their children. What is God speaking to you? It is so cool when God speaks the same message to several different people. Feel free to share on our blog how God is speaking to you during this fast, and remember, you’re not alone. God is right there with you, waiting for you to come to Him, and when you do, take time to listen!

you temptress! aside from my dog, cheese is the only thing i have a borderline unhealthy obsession with! i wish i were kidding, but the Lord made me to love cheese and so i do (perhaps a bit too much though). cheddar, monterey jack, feta, goat, swiss, american, colby, and gouda...sweet, sweet, smoked gouda.
as much as i do know i love cheese, it's odd to me that i really don't crave it. sure last night i just wanted to empty the contents of a doritos bag into my mouth via pouring it straight in...that's besides the point. the point is, those cravings don't come all that often. am i really making it through this fast so easily simply because we're doing this all together? i'm baffled at how it almost doesn't seem hard. part of me wonders if i should have gone bigger than doing the Daniel fast. am i missing something? every time Paul warns us against doing this for the wrong reason, i internally panic that i might be one of them. am i just an over analyzing freak or is my heart not right in this??

April -- now I know what to get you for your birthday, a wheel of cheese! Do you even like limburger chesse?
You nailed it by saying it's seems simple because we are all doing it together. There is great power when the Body of Christ comes together like this. Fasting doesn't always need to be a painful experience to be effective. We are honoring God by giving up things we enjoy and saying to Him that He is more important than anything else in our lives. Stay strong and don't over analyze...
