Day 10

Has your faith increased during the first 10 days of the fast? Oh by the way, we’re almost half way there! If you were not at church during our 20/10 Vision series to kick of the year, you may have missed one of the things I have been dreaming for RC3 this year. I really feel that the Lord wants to grow our congregation’s faith in profound ways. That happens when individuals are having their faith stretched. Just like a muscle that is stretched and strained when exercising grows, so does our faith when fasting. It’s like a workout for our souls. We grow individually and then collectively we experience God’s power moving in greater ways.
I shared in my message on 1/3 that Hebrews 11:6 says, “without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” Are you using your time of fasting to draw near to God or to lose a couple of holiday pounds? Are you believing that the God of the universe exists and that he will reward you as you seek him or is the detoxification of your body going to be your only reward from your time of fasting?
The physical benefits of fasting are substantial (and supported by medical and nutritional experts), but that is not the purpose of our fast, merely a practical benefit. I would encourage you as you approach the midway point of our fast, renew your focus and ask God to increase your faith. I have been amazed in the first 10 days to see God stretching my faith. I am rejoicing over some truly miraculous moves of the spirit in my life during this time of fasting. The fast didn’t manipulate God to move or yank a magical spiritual string, but it certainly has grown my faith. That is reward in and of itself!
